As a caring, responsible pet parent, you want what’s best for your animal companion. This includes meeting your pet’s nutritional needs – needs which change throughout your pet’s lifetime. You want to make sure that not only are you feeding your pet the right food, but that you’re serving it in the correct amount and with the proper frequency for optimum health. At Huffard Animal Hospital we know everything there is to know about animal nutrition, and we can help get your pet on the road to excellent health through our nutritional counseling and weight management services.

Every pet is different, so each of our patients receives an individualized nutritional analysis to determine what his or her specific dietary needs are. From this analysis, we are able to formulate a nutritional plan that will meet all of your pet’s needs, including diets designed specifically to assist in the management of various medical conditions, such as kidney disease, diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease.

We’ll also provide advice and guidance to ensure that you aren’t over feeding your pet. Too many calories can lead to weight gain, which can negatively impact your pet’s health over time. Obese animals are at a much greater risk of developing a number of serious, debilitating and sometimes even life threatening diseases such as arthritis and diabetes. By knowing exactly how much you should be feeding your pet, and how often, you’ll be able to more closely monitor that caloric intake and help your pet maintain a healthy weight.
In addition to your pet’s diet, physical activity should also be an important part of his or her daily routine. Yet not all exercises make sense for all animals. For instance, pets that are older or those that suffer from certain medical conditions may need a modified activity plan to support their unique needs. Our knowledgeable staff will work with you to determine which types of activities would be best suited for your particular pet to help keep them active and fit.

Managing your pet’s nutrition and weight can seem like a daunting task, but with the help of an expert, it doesn’t have to be! Let us work with you to develop a customized diet and exercise plan that will bring out the very best in your animal companion and help them live a longer, healthier life.
