Emergency

Huffard Animal Hospital is proud to offer urgent care services during normal business hours, as able, when your pet is experiencing an emergency. A pet emergency can be a traumatic experience for both you and your pet, so it is important to have a veterinarian you can trust when you are in such an intense situation. Our veterinarians and technicians are trained to handle many pet emergencies, should the need arise.

**Please note, although we are equipped to handle many types of urgent care situations, we still may need to refer you to a local Veterinary Emergency Hospital if our capacity has been exceeded, or your pet requires care above and beyond what we are able to provide in our advanced general practice setting.

If you arrive with a pet that needs emergency care, you can expect our team to escort your loved one back to our triage area immediately to assess the situation. Additionally, we will collect a full history from you in a separate room so we can better care for your family. Rest assured knowing that we have technicians staffed at Huffard Animal Hospital 24/7 committed to providing superior care and comfort to our hospitalized pets.

**Please note, there is no on-site veterinarian after the close of the normal business day (though there is a doctor-on-call for any already admitted patients at all times). In the event that your pet’s status requires an on-site veterinarian after hours, we will advise referral to a local Veterinary Emergency Hospital.

A pet emergency could include the following:

  • Hit by a vehicle
  • Sudden inability to stand or walk
  • Rapid breathing
  • Seizures
  • Extreme vomiting or diarrhea
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Laceration/ Bite wounds
  • Foreign object ingestion
  • Toxic ingestion

Please call us at 410.768.3620 with questions about our urgent care services. We are here to help during your pet emergency!
